Your Shopify store is live, but orders aren't coming in. Before deciding on a complete redesign or increasing your advertising budget, break down the process into: Are you getting visitors? Are they able to choose a product? Are they proceeding to purchase?
As a manufacturer, NEXT SCIENCE sells its own products via Shopify and manages product descriptions, collections, blogs, landing pages, Meta ads, and analytics. We have faced the same challenges in our own operations, where even if ads generate interest, it doesn't lead to sales. Therefore, we treat "having a site" and "being in a state ready to sell" as separate inspections.
First, divide the "no sales" state into four categories
| Status | Metrics to check | Revision candidates |
|---|---|---|
| Not being visited | GA4 sessions by source, GSC impressions/search terms | Connect content that addresses problems to products/services |
| Not choosing a product | Sequential transition from LP/articles to target products | Explain how to choose by use case, comparisons, and inclusion/exclusion criteria |
| Product viewed but not added to cart | view_item → add_to_cart for the same user segment | Make pricing, specs, compatibility, shipping/return conditions easier to judge |
| Stalling before or during checkout | add_to_cart → begin_checkout → purchase | Check shipping/payment methods and inspect for operational issues |
If GA4 event data is insufficient, you must first reconcile it with order data. Ensure you are not simply dividing by the total number of events, which fails to account for the conversion rate of individual users.
Distinguish between insufficient traffic and misalignment of traffic
Check your search terms and landing pages in Google Search Console. Someone arriving via a product name has different needs than someone arriving via a "problem." Sending someone who searched for a solution directly to a product list may result in them being unable to make a choice.
Check if the usage described in Meta ads or SEO articles matches the descriptions on the landing pages. Even if traffic increases, it is unlikely to lead to purchases if the target region, budget, or intended use does not align.
Transform product information from maker explanations into buying criteria
Creators who know their products well tend to start with technical specs and model numbers. First-time readers want to know: "Can I use this?", "What should I choose?", "What is the total cost?", and "What happens after it arrives?"
- Place target use cases and exclusion conditions early in the text
- If there are similar products, narrow down the selection criteria to two or three items
- Make it easy to check sizes, necessary accessories, and usage methods
- Place links to shipping, return, and payment terms near the purchase decision point
Don't just add more text; verify if a customer can make a decision by the time they reach the purchase button on a smartphone. At our own e-commerce site, we consider the flow based on operational conditions, such as the division of roles between landing pages and product pages, and how we handle publicly available versus limited-release products.
Use Clarity to find spots that look clickable but aren't
If "dead clicks" occur on images or headings that look like products, users might be expecting a link. Where scrolling stops, check if the explanation is too long or unclear. Since behavioral data alone cannot confirm the reason, cross-reference it with GA4 transitions and the actual display.
For the first week, fix only one thing
For example, if product comparisons are confusing, add a short "how-to-choose" guide by use case with product links. Keep a record of the change date and traffic conditions, and check views, cart additions, and purchases for the same period and device category. Do not judge success or failure based on a small fluctuation in orders.
AI can be used to organize explanations or create comparison drafts, but always cross-reference specs, prices, compatibility, and inventory with real-world data. Prioritize providing the correct information needed for purchase decisions over simply generating text quickly.
